Place the camera strap around your neck and turn the power switch on. Check your battery life on the control panel and make sure you have a full battery. Change your shutter speed to 1/60th of a second by using the main command dial. You are going to use this shutter speed because you're subject is not moving so you do not need a fast shutter speed. Your ISO should already be on 200 because there is not a lot of noise in the picture. But if not hold down the thumbnail button and use the main command dial to change it to the correct setting. Your aperture should be small because you want some light on the subject. So a f5.6 should be good for the picture. The white balance setting should be on shady, so hold down the white balance button and use the main command dial to change it to shady. Make sure your picture is in focus by using the focus ring and if you need to zoom use the zoom ring. Take a look at your photo on the monitor to see if it came out the way you wanted it to.

Why do you think the film does not answer this question?

I think that the film does not answer this question because the film makers want other people to think about it. This is not an art scheme because it is a little girl just painting because she loves to. People saw potential in this little girl and decided that she could make a career out of them. Her parents could see and had a art show for her and sold some of her art, they kept the money for Marla's college fund. This is a documentary and you see that throughout the movie people opinions keep changing on Marla's paintings. Most of the time Marla just wants to play like a little kid and not be followed by cameras. So my thought that they did not answer this question is because they want you to think about this.

“Art has obligation to explain itself to you. If it doesn’t, it’s the art’s fault.”

This quote is trying to say that when a painting goes up on the wall and when people look at it, people should immediately know the feeling that the painting is trying to explain to you. And if you don’t see it right away then it is the arts fault that you don’t see it. I don’t agree with that at all, and for that matter I don’t think a lot of people would agree with that quote. The person who stated this quote obviously has not seen enough art in life. Most of the time artwork does not explain its self to the viewer looking at it. To look at a piece of artwork and not know what it means right away doesn’t mean that it is the arts fault or the viewer. Art has its own effect on different people. Everyone has a different view on artwork and that is fine.

In the documentary Marla paints abstract paintings and because of her young age it is recognized all over the world so quickly. Art today is weird and abstract in its own way and everyone who looks at it may or may not see something in that painting. In this movie the father is accused of helping Marla paint her pictures, because people think some of her ideas are grown up. All he does is set the canvas up for her and she does that rest. The mother says that modern at weird because it is difficult to understand. Both of the parents are viewed differently and each have there own view. To have the same views on art would be boring no one would go and see art because of that. There was a couple in the movie that bought one of Marla’s painting and saw that in one of the corners of the painting there was a doorway and a man standing there. Now I wouldn’t have seen that or thought of that if I had that painting. Just because when you look at artwork and it doesn’t come to you what the painting mean does not mean that it is the arts fault.
